MATUKU

He manu hou ahau, he pī ka rere – I am a young bird, just a chick learning to fly.

Welcome to Matuku Learning Space

We are a group of Year 1 learners at Wigram Primary school.

Teaching in Matuku we have Mrs Aimee Wales (Team Leader), Miss Alicia Bell, Miss Muriel Pehi and Mrs Jacinda Clements. We are also lucky enough to have great teacher aides to support our students with their learning. We work as a collaborative team so therefore have shared responsibility for all the students and their learning.

Learning Programmes

Our day starts at 8:30 am with the students independently completing their morning jobs. The students work in small groups for Reading, Writing and Maths. These groups are based on what the students can do and what their next learning steps are. These groups are flexible as they are based on the needs of the students. Alongside our Reading, Writing and Maths programmes, we have our HEART Zones. Heart Zones are the play activities we create around a book for the week. This helps students to enhance their learning with an emphasis on our school values – Hauora, Explore, Aspire, Respect and Taonga (treasure). Through these activities we encourage collaboration, creativity, problem solving, thinking, managing ourselves, and develop oral language skills and experiences.

The students love to share their learning and this can be found on our blog or our learning site.

Please feel free to contact any of us with any questions you may have.
